Machine safety inspections
Ensuring that workshop machinery in your school is regularly inspected is crucial for maintaining safety, compliance, and functionality. In England, annual machine safety inspections are not just recommended—they are a legal requirement.
We work to the British Standards BS41:63, PUWER and CLEAPSS to ensure the highest standards for your workshops. Following your safety inspection our highly experienced engineer will generate a written report detailing recommendations or required work in accordance with the above standards. Your school can then decide which work you ask us to carry out, ensuring workshop safety for your pupils and staff.
We offer both one-off annual inspections, or, why not sign up to a 3 year plan making a great saving for your school!
Combine your inspection with any of our services to save £s overall!
LEV Testing & Fume cupboard assessments
Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems play a crucial role in protecting everyone (staff & pupils) from hazardous substances by capturing and removing harmful particles from the air. Whether in workshops, science labs or art rooms, these systems are vital to maintaining a safe and healthy indoor environment. All of our LEV engineers are also P601 qualified, the recommended qualification for all LEV engineers.
To ensure LEV systems are functioning correctly and providing adequate protection, they must be tested and maintained regularly.
LEV system testing is not only a best practice, but a legal requirement under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002. Schools must have their LEV systems thoroughly tested at least once every 14 months by a qualified professional to ensure compliance and safeguard the health of all users.
Following your LEV system testing and Fume Cupboard Assessments we will provide a detailed written report within 4 weeks of testing and also any recommendations or required work needed.
We offer LEV system testing & Fume Cupboard Assessments once per 12 months to ensure your schools systems are within regulations. Combine with your annual safety inspection to save, or, subscribe to our 3 year plan!
Kilns & pottery equipment
Kilns are amazing pieces of equipment and we love that schools provide pupils with the opportunity to create and fire their own art works, however, to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the wider school environment, kiln safety inspections are a vital part of school health and safety protocols.
In England, schools are legally required to maintain safe working conditions, and regular kiln inspections are part of this responsibility. These inspections help identify potential hazards, ensure that kilns are functioning correctly, and verify that safety measures are in place. Whether it’s checking electrical components, ventilation systems, or ensuring proper training for kiln operators, regular safety checks reduce the risk of accidents and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Kiln, potters wheels and pug mills can all be inspected by SWS and again we will provide a detailed report identifying any recommended or required works to ensure the equipment is safe. These are more cost-effective when booked in with another service but we do also inspect these as a stand alone service.
